X-band downlink module EGSE

Electric ground support equipment(EGSE) runs tests on the X-band downlink module(XDM) and its components, receives and analyzes X-band downlink RF output power during the integration test.

Equipment Composition

XDM EGSE, composed of hardware and software, enables rapid verification of PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem) and XDM (including XTX, MAS, XAA) during satellite integration, test, and launch planning.

Included tools are connectors for environmental tests (thermal-vacuum test, electromagnetic compatibility test), and XDM-connected wire and wireless RF signal collector and cables.

Equipment Functions

XDM EGSE provides centralized real-time monitoring and processing of major XDM specifications including signal simulation, frequency, spectrum, modulation, and demodulation. The equipment also simulates XDM input(IDHU output) for XDM unit verification.

The equipment receives XDM output in real time and stores mission (more than 20) test image data (raw data, processed data). There is a backup system for previously tested data in case storage capacity reaches its limit. The equipment actuate (operate), control, and monitor the status of XTX, MAS, and XAA; and compare the adequacy of the major image processing(packet, compression, encryption, encoding, etc.) and performance as well as analyze the speed (setting the performance to minimize the impact on the final satellite assembly/test schedule).

XDM EGSE transfers the TPF (Tracking Parameter Files) -required for actuating XAA(X-band Antenna Assembly) - to APD(Antenna Pointing Driver), and monitors whether APM(Antenna Point Module) is running properly according to the TPF commands. The equipment includes the hardware and software simulation (including restoration) function for major image processing .
