SATELLITE ONBOARD SYSTEM

CATIS™

Product details

CATIS™

CATIS™ is an earth imaging SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) payload designed and developed by Lumir. SAR is a microwave sensor, acquiring images of the target by sending microwave signal over a certain bandwidth and measures the amount of reflected energy. SAR is an active sensor producing its own signals, providing 24-hour, all-weather earth observation. In addition, the SAR detects small-scale changes using phase information in microwaves. SAR polarization provides information on physical structure and chemical properties of objects or surface.

CATIS™ performs the function of SAR image acquisition, storage, and transmission. CATIS™ is composed of SCEU (SAR Electronic Control Unit) and SATA (SAR antenna).

■ SAR Control Electronics Unit (SCEU)

SCEU is an electronics control unit for CATIS™ system. The unit includes chirp signal generation, transmission, SAR signal digital reception, data compression using BAQ, and timing control. It supports mass storage of image data as well as ACM (Adaptive Coding & Modulation) for high-speed adaptive satellite-to-ground image data transmission.

Compact-sized, Lightweight

A 3 U size electronics unit for SAR control based on the SpaceVPX standard. The unit is compact and weighs less than 8 kg with RF-digital-incorporated SoC.

Digital Signal Processing

With the SoC technology, SAR transmitting and receiving signals are digitally modulated/demodulated to obtain high-quality frequency and low IMD, minimizing satellite signal distortion. This digital signal processing improves the quality of high-resolution images.

Dual-Wideband Signal Processing

The 1 GHz-bandwidth chirp signal is operated and processed in X-band and C-band with no extra device. It is capable of capturing high-resolution images of up to 0.3 m per pixel with 1 GHz bandwidth.

Large Image File Storage and Modulation for Satellite-to-Ground Transmission

The storage saves high-resolution images of up to 2 TB, supported by memory integration in SoC architecture. It provides satellite-to-ground transmission of large volume data using high-speed 2 Gbps ACM scheme.

■ SAR Antenna & TRM Assembly (SATA)

SATA, a SAR antenna assembly, is made compact and light suitable for microsatellites with the HMIC-based TRM integration, and dual-band dual-polarized planar phase array antenna design. The swath width may be increased by phase controlling electronic beam steering.

Compact, Lightweight

HMIC-based TRM has been integrated into a planar antenna to reduce the size and weight to less than 25 kg.

Dual-Band, Dual-Polarization

The antenna has been designed to operate simultaneously at two different frequency bands(X-band and C-band) and in both vertical and horizontal polarization.

Electronic Beam Steering

TRM shifts phase to electronically steer the beam, and increases the swath width by achieving steering range of -10° - +10°.
